This full day seminar will address key concepts for the identification, sampling, assessment and management of asbestos contamination in soil with an emphasis on evaluating the issues from a health risk perspective. Key areas covered in the seminar will include:
- An overview of historical asbestos usage and health risks
- Sources and nature of asbestos contamination in soil
- Health risk assessment of asbestos in soil
- Existing WHS and Environmental regulations and guidelines relating to asbestos in soil
- Soil sampling methodology
- Analysis of bulk samples and soil for asbestos
- Limitations of the sampling and analytical methods
- Assessment of site observations and laboratory results
- Options for the management of asbestos contaminated soil
The seminar will include case studies and a number of practical demonstrations and exercises to reinforce the major learning outcomes.
