Create well written PIRMPs to comply and protect your business

Having a well written Pollution Incident Response Management Plans (PIRMP) will protect your site when an incident occurs. Not only to better control the incident but to also protect the organisation from being a victim of its own document. Holding an Environment Protection Licences means that not only should a PIRMP be prepared and ready for implementation, but it must also be updated, tested and training occur. Additionally, EPA has released its upgraded PIRMP Guidelines and has indicated it will amend PIRMP law under the POEO (General) Regulation.

 

ASBG's webinar will over 3 session cover the basics of what is required in a PIRMP, but also how to meet the new guidelines and write the document so your site has more control over what incidents are considered to trigger Material Harm and how they are responded to. The webinar will cover:

 

Session 1 - Introduction and Material Harm

  • An overview of the contents and key areas required to be covered in a PIRMP document
  • What is a pollution incident? Does this include fires?
  • How it differs from a typical Emergency Plan
  • What is a pollution incident and what is Material Harm?
  • Preparation of clean up response procedures
  • EPA actions regarding incidents and PIRMP compliance
  • Material Harm triggers and how to express these in your PIRMP

Session 2 - Writing the PIRMP along with other Emergency Plans

  • Combining it with other emergency and risk management plans
  • Risk assessments required under your PIRMP
  • Emergency Plans and pollution incident response issues
  • Changes under the Guidelines - records and Maps
  • Website PIRMP - what goes in it?

Session 3 - Implementing the PIRMP and practical lessons

  • Example pollution cleanup response procedures
  • Dealing with neighbours after an incident
  • Testing of the plan using drills and observation
  • Triggers for retesting the PIRMP
  • Incorporating lesions learnt from testing and incidents - Updating the PIRMP
