This seminar will assist contaminated landowners, environmental professionals based in industry and new entrants to environmental management on recent changes and developments in the contaminated land management.

The proposed SEPP 55 Remediation of Land and Contaminated Land Guidelines are a work in progress will be discussed at the seminar, including discussion on the role of Auditors and Certified Contaminated Site Practitioners. It will also discuss recent initiatives by the EPA and the impacts of the Australian Water Quality Guidelines 2018.  There have been a number of legislative and rule changes affecting asbestos management, in terms of management, transport and disposal.

Also discussed are the ongoing emerging pollutants of PFAS and asbestos and the issues they bring to contaminated land management.  . This seminar will cover:

  • Update on policy changes from the NSW EPA
  • Update on the progress of the review of SEPP 55
  • A legal review on property transactions and recent court cases 
  • PFAS management following national guidance on this subject for contaminated sites
  • Overview on the new Australian and NZ Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality
  • Use of auditors and or practitioners for managing medium risk level remediation
  • Managing contaminated asbestos soils under NSW’s waste legislation
