The UN’s
Globally Harmon ised System (GHS) for chemical classification and labelling comes to NSW in 2012.  GHS replaces Hazardous Substances (HS) with its entirely new and expanded classification and labelling system.  GHS is not a direct fit with HS, but is more compatible with DGs.

Safework Australia’s Model Work Health & Safety Regulations, to be NSW law from January 2012, incorporates the UN’s Global Harmonized System (GHS) for labeling chemicals in workplaces. The workshop's agenda covers:

  • Introduction to international chemical labelling
  • Overview of the Draft Model Work Health and Safety Regulations as per chemical storage
  • Overview of the GHS:
    • Which labe ling can be used – DG, GHS, Ag & Vet and others
    • Physical hazards
    • Health Hazards
    • Environmental Hazards
  • Overlap with dangerous goods and hazardous substances labeling under NSW’s new Work Health & Safety Act, regulations and codes of practice
  • Incorporation of GHS information into the new Safety Data Sheets
  • Case study workshop — coverting hazardous substances to GHS classification and other chemcial classification under GHS.

This workshop supplements ASBG’s workshop on dangerous goods in providing a broader knowledge of the changes coming in chemical labeling.
